No bookmaker in Vegas could have predicted a rookie leaving the South Point Hotel and Casino with the Championship Bull Riding title in hand. Trey Benton from Rock Island, Texas did just that with a total score of 181 to claim his first CBR title.
This was no easy ride, the bulls brought in for the event had to be some of the toughest bulls I have seen in a long time. The third bull of the night "Hot Legs" was the first to throw a rider off and was not the last. Bull "All Jacked Up" from Hurst Rodeo Ranch was just All Jacked Up, he made sure the roper did his job for the night as he did not want to get off the arena floor. The first Bull Rider and Bull of the night was Chandler Bownds from Lubbock TX. riding Lumberjack, Chandler showed he is going to be someone to watch with a score of 88.5. The remaining 35 Bull Riders knew Chandler's score was going to be a challenge, and a challenge it was. Chandler's score remaind the top score until the 29th rider, Trey Benton riding "Warrior" scored a big 90.5 score. This was enough to place Trey in the number one slot for the championship round.
Before the championship round, local Las Vegas Marine Veteran Troy Huber was honored by Henry Rifles. Troy received a fullhouse standing ovation and plenty of handshakes and hugs as he made his way back to his seat.
A BIG THANK YOU TROY FOR WHAT YOU DO.

They saved the best bulls of the night for the championship round, and after the first two riders, the bulls were winning. That all changed when Cody Teel from Kountze,TX outlasted bull "Silent Bob" for the full 8 seconds to score 90 points. We did not see another 90 point ride until crowd favorite Craig Jackson out of Houston,TX as he scored 90.5 points on "Bugle" The next three riders had a no score and it has come to the point of only two riders left for the night. Chandler Bownds had his hands full with "IMABADCAT" and scored a a big 90 points. At this point Chandler is sitting in first place with one rider left, that rider a rookie.
All eyes were on Trey Benton to see if he could pull off the upset of the night by hanging onto "Cowtown" for the full ride. As the clock expired the crowd was silent until the score of 90.5 showed on the board and Trey won the South Point Tuff Hedeman Vegas Challenge.
Top three riders of the event:
1. Trey Benton
2. Chandler Bownds
3. Craig Jackson

The nights battles put the Fabulous Sin City Rollergirls original home teams and biggest rivals, Tommy Gun Terrors vs. Notorious V.I.P's, The Second bout was between the reigning champions Hoover Damned and the Flying Aces, the latest addition to the league.
The night started with the Tommy Gun Terrors vs. the Notorious V.I.P's. The Terrors started the match hard and fast, and jump out to a 15 point lead midway through the first half. However the V.I.P's answered back with some good solid runs to catch Terrors and take a 18 point lead. This lead did not last long, the Terrors came back strong and regained the lead going into the half 92 - 65.
Not sure what was said on the bench for the Terrors but when the second half started they looked like a whole new team. The Terrors started putting up points on the board faster than some could count. At one point I thought they were going to let up and have an easy night, boy was I wrong. The Terrors wanted to make a statement that they want to win it all this year and no team is is going to get in their way. Final score: Terrors 198 - V.I.P's 81

Fabulous Sin City Rollergirls skated their way into the Riviera Hotel & Casino Convention Center for a action packed double header. This was the last event of the preseason and it was themed with the Holidays in mind. The teams were matched by online voting through the Sin City Rollergirls Facebook page.
The first match placed Naughty vs Nice, and we all know if you're "naughty" you don't get anything for Christmas. Team Nice jumped out to a large lead and looked like there was no hope for the Naughty. However, team Naughty fought hard and pulled within striking distance with a 24 point run by Jammer 777 "Ace 'N Ya Face" it was the highest points scored in a single jam of the night. As the minutes ticked away team Nice added a few more points to finish the night with a 10 point lead over team Naughty. Final score: 128 - 118.
The second exciting match was Tacky Christmas Sweaters vs Obnoxious Holiday Socks. This matched started where the first one left off, fast and full of edge of your seat excitement. The Obnoxious Socks take an early lead, however just like real "Tacky Christmas Sweaters" team Sweaters come back for a short time to take the lead. This lead did not last long as the Socks "stuffed" them by 11 points at the half.
The second half started with the same momentum of the first as the Socks add to the lead. The Sweaters start their comeback and pull within a few points, then Sweaters jammer "Murphee Slaw" gains over 10 points to take the lead. On the next jam, skating for the Sweaters "Candy Cane Her" scores 8 points to expand the lead. As time winds down Sweater jammer "Murphee Slaw" gets a solid 5 points to seal the win. Final score: 83 - 74

I can say I was quite surprised when I took in this event, I was expecting the roller derby action like when I was a kid. You know the kind like WWE wrestling, all scripted and the outcome can be figured out just by the team match-up's. This was not the case, this is flat track roller derby at its best. These girls go through some the toughest workouts I have seen. I can truly say my skates will stay in the garage when these ladies take to the track.
The Official Season 7 opener is Saturday Jan. 28th 2012 at 6pm at the Riviera Hotel & Casino Convention Center with a Double Header featuring Notorious V.I.P. vs. Tommy Gun Terrors, and Hover Damned vs. Flying Aces.
